Restoring Wonder

Restoring Wonder

In the past few months, I have discovered an important secret to avoid burnout — a return to childlike simplicity and restoring wonder.

It didn’t matter whether it was early in the morning, at noon, at the end of the day, or the middle of night, I could feel the presence of retained tension in my body on so many different levels. I knew this way of living was unsustainable. Something had to change, but what?

May incredible mentor assured me that tension overload and walking on the verge of burnout wasn’t only a “me problem” but an “everyone threat.” He worked with me, inviting me into a lifestyle of childlike wonder — taking time to explore and enjoy the world around me with fresh outlook and insight. The results were almost instantaneous.

If you can relate, this message is for you.

“At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.”
Matthew 18:1-5

For those of you who were present or who have already watched this message online, my apologies for the repetition. But for others, you may find the content of restoring wonder both refreshing and life-giving. Several people have commented how this was a timely invitation to return to the awe and wonder of childlikeness.
